Fish Fry
Carol Deptolla | Dining Critic | JSOnline.com Lists Tally Ho As one of the BEST FISH FRY Around Fish Fry
Dinner starts with warm pretzel rolls, a hearty welcome, and moves on to soup - tender clam and chunks of potato swim in the chowder - or salad - iceberg, which I had with a house blue cheese dressing, generous with small mountains of cheese.

The quality of the fish was top-notch and so was the preparation, with light breading on the pan-fried walleye ($12.99) and perch ($12.99). Deep-fried cod loin ($9.99) came with real crunch. On the side: potato pancakes, thicker and crisp; house-made chips; or french fries. Nestled in the slaw were dried cranberries, an addition that works; it gives just a touch of sweetness.

Tally Ho also bakes cod to order ($9.99, three choices of seasonings). The place: This building long has been part of the Erin landscape, and amid the aged beams and chestnut-colored paneling are historical photos, beer signs and vintage religious icons (Tally Ho is a few miles from Holy Hill). In winter, the bar and dining room are crowded with snowmobilers, fresh off their machines. The main dining room seats 68; another 50 can be seated upstairs.
